Today, Major Eric Garcetti presented the ShakeAlertLA, a free app could save lives in the event of an earthquake. The App will notify residents when 5.0+ magnitude earthquakes are coming. So far, the app is useful for Los Angeles City residents only
Looks like neighbor cities like Alhambra, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Santa Monica, Inglewood, Maywood, Montebello among others will need to sign agreements with LA City and US Geological Survey to include their residents in the program.
It is possible that some neighbors living close to LA City boundary may get the alerts, due to the inaccuracy of the GPS systems to locate your position.
Some users claim that the app requests continue track of your position affecting hard the battery of your smartphone.
If you download the app, please share your thoughts and opinions.
